Woman arrested for smuggling items into jail

A woman who worked as a criminal investigator at Parchman State Penitentiary, was arrested and charged with two counts of introducing contraband into the prison. Chandrina Perry, 30, of Shaw, was arrested at Parchman for allegedly bringing contraband cell phones into the prison. She was arrested by her own department.

Bond for Perry was set at $20,000, and she was transported to the Sunflower County Correctional Facility. She has since bonded out.

Mexican restaurant robbed

Two men robbed the employees of a Mexican restaurant in Greenville last week. Authorities said around 10:30 p.m., on Feb. 21, the robbers entered the restaurant through the rear door. After failing to get money from the cash register, Greenville Police Captain Andrew Kaho, told WABG the suspects robbed the employees inside the business.

They took several wallets and cell phones before threatening the employees with a gun and running away on foot. Kaho said the suspects were wearing hoodies and blue jeans.

Man found guilty of child pornography

A Federal jury has found a Cleveland man guilty of two counts of child pornography. Jason Owens, 39, was found guilty of transporting and shipping images of child porn from Mississippi to Colorado in 2007, WABG reported.

Federal agents found the images on Owens’ computer, at his place of employment, in 2008.

Owens, who will be sentenced within 90 days, is facing up to 30 years in prison and a fine of $500,000. His attorney has filed an appeal.
