Bank robber commits suicide during pursuit

Authorities said a bank robbery suspect killed himself while he was fleeing police last week. Police were pursuing Jonathan Dozier, of Ocean Springs, after a report that the First National Bank of Picayune had been robbed.

The call came in about 12:55 p.m., on Sept. 15, after authorities said Dozier, 41, handed a bank teller a note saying he had a gun and was robbing the bank.

A sheriff’s deputy later spotted Dozier’s car and began the pursuit.

Pearl River County Sheriff David Alison said Dozier reportedly crashed his car after missing a turn and landing in a shallow ditch. Alison said Dozier jumped out of his vehicle with a gun in his hand, which he then pointed to his head and pulled the trigger.

The incident remains under investigation.

The 18-wheeler saw the wrong way driver and swerved to miss the pick up and ended up below the interstate on the railroad tracks.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
