Former Mound Bayou Alderman found murdered

MOUND BAYOU – Authorities are still searching for the person who stabbed a former Mound Bayou alderman to death in his home on New Year’s Eve.

Shedrick Stout was found in the bathroom of his residence on Annyce Street, around 8:50 p.m., Dec. 31. He had been stabbed multiple times in the upper body, with the fatal wound piercing his heart, officials said. Stout was 49.

Mound Bayou Police Chief Tony Warren said after Stout was attacked, he managed to call 911, but died before emergency personnel arrived.

“He was able to use the phone in his bedroom,” Warren said. “And he called and asked for emergency assistance.”

When authorities arrived, including Chief Warren, they found Stout on the floor of his bathroom, next door to his bedroom where the 911 call was made. Warren said that Stout lived alone in the single-story wood frame house, and while there were no signs of forced entry, the house did show signs of a struggle.

“As far as we know, nothing was missing,” Warren said. “And nothing was disturbed other than what appears to be a struggle.”

Chief Warren also said that Stout’s car was parked on the car port and his truck was parked “where it’s normally parked.”

Stout was transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Pearl where is death was ruled a homicide.

Chief Warren said that Stout worked in a managerial capacity for Burger King in Clarksdale, and that he served one term as an alderman on the Mound Bayou Town Board before being defeated in the 2009 election.

Funeral services for Stout were held Saturday, Jan. 9 at Jerusalem M.B. Church, where Stout served as a deacon.

Anyone with information about Stout’s murder can call the Mound Bayou Police Department at 662.741.2191 or the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department at 662.843.5378. A $2,000 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers and Burger King for information.
