Vehicle ran off the road and crashed

Authorities are investigating a one-vehicle accident that left a Dennis, Miss., woman and her two children dead. The accident occurred about 12:30 p.m., on May 15, on U.S. Highway 25 in the northeast town of Belmont. The driver, 32-year old Misty Dawn Scott, was driving a Chevy Blazer when authorities said she left the roadway and crashed.

Scott’s two children, 14-year old Brooklynn and 13-year old Jesse, also died at the scene. Authorities said the children lived in Cherokee, Ala., with their father and attended Cherokee Elementary School.

The accident remains under investigation.

Children found in meth lab

Two young children were taken into custody by the Department of Human Services after authorities found them in a “Shake and Bake” meth lab.

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics initiated the bust at a residence in Bruce where Brittany Gann, 21, and Jeffery Free, 34, were arrested. Agents from the MBN confirmed that methamphetamines, meth precursors and marijuana were seized in the search. It was not clear if the two small children were those of Gann and Free.

Gann and Free were charged with possession of methamphetamines, the manufacture of methamphetamines and child endangerment.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and the Bruce Police Department assisted in the seizure.

Man arrested for felony abuse

A Quitman man was arrested and charged with felony abuse of a vulnerable adult after authorities said he physically attacked a patient. James Pete Moss, 51, was indicted on March 26 in Lauderdale County Circuit Court, on allegations that while employed at the East Mississippi State Hospital, he hit and caused bodily injury to the head and torso of a patient under his care.

Moss was booked into the Lauderdale County Jail where his bond has not yet been set.
