Convicted murderer escapes from jail

PEARL – A state inmate serving two life sentences for murdering a man during a home invasion in Harrison County has escaped from prison. Mark Kee Brown, 36, escaped from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility around 10 p.m. Sunday night.

Brown is 5’8″ tall and weighs 155 pounds. He was last seen wearing MDOC issued black and white striped pants and a white t-shirt with “MDOC Convict” printed on it.

Brown has a medium complexion, medium build, brown eyes and black hair.

Last week, the state Court of Appeals upheld Brown’s capital murder conviction in the killing of Larry Darnell Turner of D’Iberville.

On June 7, the Appeals Court said the issue of Brown’s post-arrest silence came up when Brown testified that he had an alibi for the time of Turner’s slaying and testified that he did not tell police about it. The court said prosecutors did not violate Brown’s rights by asking about his post-arrest silence.

Brown claimed prosecutors turned the jury against him by commenting on his decision not to answer questions from police after his arrest.

Anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts are urged to contact MDOC at (662) 745-6611.
