TUPELO, Mississippi (AP) — Authorities in Mississippi say a firefighter has been arrested on suspicion of driving a fire truck while drunk.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson told WTVA-TV that 34-year-old Phillip W. Gasaway, a member of the Unity Fellowship Volunteer Fire Department, lost control of the fire truck while he was responding to a grass fire on Thursday night.
Gasaway was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and is scheduled to appear in court on April 16, authorities said.
WTVA reports that Gasaway said he swerved off a county road to avoid an oncoming car.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Gasaway has an attorney.
