GULFPORT, Mississippi (AP) — Ohio Gov. John Kasich brings his bid for the GOP presidential nomination to Gulfport next week.
Kasich will host a Town Meeting at Cafe Climb on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The free event begins at 11 a.m.
Kasich finished second in last week’s Republican primary in New Hampshire.
He will be the second presidential candidate to campaign in the area. Donald Trump made a stop at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum last month.
Gov. Phil Bryant and fellow Republicans who lead the Mississippi House and Senate say they have big plans to overhaul public education during the 2013 session.
However, their inability to enact a new charter schools law in 2012 shows it’s easy to talk about ambitious plans and difficult to round up enough votes to challenge the status quo.
