Oregon woman accused of fracturing skull of online boyfriend, who is from Alabama

police line(AP) A man who traveled across the country to live with a woman he met online was struck in the skull with a baseball bat shortly after he arrived, authorities said Monday.

Samuel Campbell, of Adger, Alabama, had been in an online relationship with Haley Fox, of Turner, Oregon, for about two years, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Baldridge said.

Last week, Campbell came to meet Fox in person for the first time and live with her, but when he got to her home, she led him to an outside table, told him to close his eyes, then hit him with a metal baseball bat, fracturing his skull and opening cuts that required staples, according to court documents.

Fox told investigators she injured Campbell because she did not want to be his girlfriend, Baldridge said.

Fox was arrested Thursday and later charged with first-degree assault. She posted bail and was released on the condition she have no contact with Campbell.

“Suffice it to say we completely disagree with the characterization of the facts that have been made by the sheriff’s office,” her attorney, Kevin Lafky, said Monday.

Fox has yet to enter a plea. She is scheduled to be arraigned next week.

Campbell has been released from Salem Hospital.
