Education chief: Maybe start school later in day

WASHINGTON (AP) — A later start to the school day could help teenagers get the most from their classroom time and local districts should consider delaying the first bell, Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Wednesday.

School districts would still be free to set their own start times, Duncan insisted in a broadcast interview, but he pointed to research that backs up his comments that rested students are ready students. Tablets stolen from Pearl Walmart
PEARL, MS – WLBT reports the Pearl Police Department is asking for help in identifying two suspects accused of stealing several tablets from Walmart.

Police say the thefts happened Monday at approximately 11:44 p.m. The Samsung Galaxy 3 tablets were worth $2,160.

The City of Jackson Surface Water System is currently experiencing a temporary widespread discolored water occurrence in our distribution system. The City is investigating the cause of the water’s tint. However, despite the water’s appearance, it is still safe to drink and currently there is not a boil water notice as a result of these events.

NEW YORK (AP) – The lawyer for a black woman whose hostile workplace claim against a black boss’s N-word rant produced a $280,000 jury award says she hopes the case teaches society something.

New Orleans Saints’ roster loaded with fresh faces headed into season-opener with Atlanta

METAIRIE, Louisiana – (AP) — New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton seems likely to open the regular season by throwing a dose of youth and inexperience at the visiting Atlanta Falcons.

As of Monday, 10 rookies — six of them undrafted — and three other players who have yet to be on the field for a regular season snap were on the Saints’ 53-man roster.

Some of those players may not be active on Sunday, but the Saints will need several of them to suit up.
