Suspect found in the attic
Starkville police said they have made an arrest in the theft of bacon and waffles from a hotel. Investigators said Andre Hall was wanted for the April 1st break-in of the Holiday Inn Express in Starkville.
Authorities said Hall was found in the attic at the Green Tree Apartments on Lynn Lane when they served an arrest warrant on this month.
Hall is charged with commercial burglary.
2 survive Texas crash when plane ran out of fuel
Investigators said two men, including one from Batesville, suffered minor injuries when their twin-engine plane apparently ran out of fuel and crashed in Central Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the Beechcraft Baron flipped after hitting the ground on Nov. 10 along a rural road near Bryan, about 100 miles northwest of Houston.
DPS identified the pilot as 54-year-old David Duch of Hazen, Ark. The passenger was 67-year-old Charles Lehman, of Batesville, Miss.
Authorities said one of the men called 911. Both were transported to a Bryan hospital, where they were treated and released.
DPS says the plane was bound from Arkansas to San Antonio. The incident remains under investigation.
Ohio man dies in Mississippi jail
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (MBI) is looking into the death of an inmate at the Itawamba County Jail.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports 40-year-old Brad Phillip Craig of Toledo, Ohio, was found by officers at his cell during the evening hours and authorities believe Craig committed suicide by hanging himself with a bed sheet.
Craig was arrested on a grand larceny charge in September.
Authorities further said Craig’s body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
16-year-old wanted for gunning down man on bike
Police are still looking for the 16-year old suspect who allegedly gunned down a man while he was riding his bike in Jackson in August. Thirty-five year old Jeffery Boyd Hughes died of multiple gun shot wounds after Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said he had been shot three times in the back and once in the upper left torso.
Green said police were called to the scene at Evergreen Street near Peabody Street around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 23. Police were responding to a shots fired call when they found Hughes lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Through several leads during their investigation, detectives identified 16-year old Adrian Charleston as a suspect in Hughes’ murder.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and Charleston remains at large.
Mayor seeks support for projects
Holly Springs Mayor Andre DeBerry is seeking support for a 1 percent local sales tax to raise money for various projects.
The South Reporter reports that DeBerry has proposed $8 million for a variety of local projects and another $13 million for street improvements and sidewalks. DeBerry has said the city could issue bonds some of which could be repaid from proceeds of the sales tax.
The sales tax proposal would have to be approved by the Legislature. The city already collects a 2 percent sales tax to pay off the loan on a multipurpose building and to support tourism.
