NASHVILLE – A well-known heart surgeon from Tennessee and former athlete from Mississippi State was last seen on Oct. 2, and authorities said he has hasn’t been heard from since. Dr. William Coltharp reportedly told his wife he would back home in time for dinner and never returned.

Authorities said when Coltharp wasn’t home by 1 a.m., Monday, Oct. 3, his wife notified police.

Coltharp was last seen on Center Hill Lake around 7 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 2 when a witness reportedly said he saw a man matching the doctor’s description load a concrete cinder block into the kayak before going onto the lake.

Authorities later found Coltharp’s kayak upside down with a life jacket and a laptop computer inside a dry compartment. The computer was sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.
