Jackson State to tangle with Miss. St. in ’09

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State and Jackson State will play each other in football for the first time next year.

The game will be Sept. 5 in Starkville and should come with a hefty payout for the Championship Subdivision Tigers.

Jackson State has played only one of the state’s three Bowl Subdivision teams before, losing to Southern Miss 17-7 in 1987 and 55-7 in 2002.

Jackson State coach Rick Comegy confirmed the game Monday and it was scheduled to be announced at a news conference in Starkville.
