It’s a privilege to be a mother. Motherhood is the greatest blessing any woman can be blessed with. Motherhood is a symbol of love, kindness and forgiveness. A mother’s touch is the first human touch in a child’s life. A mother’s heart is filled with a never-exhausting love for her children. She lives and dies for them.
A mother is the most beautiful woman in the child’s eyes. It is a mother’s love, pure and unadulterated, which nourishes a child and helps him to see and understand the cruel and the harsh world where he is destined to spend the rest of his life. Only a mother knows how it feels to be a mother.
Mothers shoulder a huge responsibility of instilling the good and the bad in her child’s heart. Being a mother is tough. A mother’s every action and word is under the deepest scrutiny and therefore she is always over cautious of her conduct.
The early Christians in England celebrated the Mother’s festival on the fourth Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter) to honor Mary, the mother of Christ. Interestingly, later on a religious order stretched the holiday to include all mothers, and named it as the Mothering Sunday.
People working out of their homes were expected to return to the “mother” church (the spiritual power that gave them life and protected them from harm). It also became an occasion for family reunions. Besides attending church services in honor of the Virgin Mary, children (particularly those working as domestic servants, or as trainees, being given the day off to visit their mother and family) used to come back home with gifts, flowers, and unique Mothering Day cakes and spend the day with their mothers.
Today, the Mother’s Day is a day when children give presents, flowers, and homemade cards to their mothers to express their love.
Many well-known quotes have been cited to honor the precious love of mother. Some of them include:
• “The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” – David O. McKay
• “A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary.” – Dorothy Canfield Fisher
• Creating a warm, caring, supportive, encouraging environment is probably the most important thing you can do for your family. – Stephen Covey
• “Mama exhorted her children at every opportunity to ‘jump at de sun.’ We might not land on the sun, but at least we would get off the ground.” – Zora Neale Hurston
• “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.” – Jewish Proverb
• On Mother’s Day a minister gave this perfect tribute: “My mother practices what I preach.”- Capper’s weekly
• Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall. A mother’s secret love outlives them all.- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
Poetry is another way to express the ideal combination of words that convey a person’s feelings, emotions and sentiments. While there are many genres in poetry, the most popular one is the Christian poetry. Based on the teachings of the Holy Bible, such poetry enhances the moral standards of people. Conveying your love and gratitude through Christian poems is the best way to let your mother know how much special she is.
This Mother’s Day, present some religious poems to your mother and let her know that she is the most important person in your life.
