WFM sponsors summer forum

The Women’s Fund of Mississippi (WFM) is sponsoring three Forums this summer in a “lunch and learn” education format. All Forums are open to the public and will be held from 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. at The Clarion-Ledger’s Community Room.

Forum attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase a lunch for $10 through the Women’s Fund by calling Jamie Holcomb at (601) 326-0700, ext. 01. Lunch orders must be placed at least two days in advance of each Forum.

The Women’s Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls by promoting social change and economic self-sufficiency through advocacy and strategic grantmaking. Carol Penick is executive director.

The Forum dates and topics include:

*Wednesday, May, 5. “Let’s Talking About Social Change Grantmaking.” The panel discussion will feature the Women’s Fund of Mississippi’s 2009 grant recipients: Carol Burnett, Mississippi Low Income Child Care Initiative and Moore Community House; Lisa Wilborne, Gulf Coast Women’s Center for Nonviolence; Elizabeth Hocker, Children’s Justice Center; and, Julieta Mendez, Immigration Clinic at Catholic Charities.

*Wednesday, June 9. “Let’s Talk about the Status of Women in Mississippi.” Speaker will be Marianne Hill, chair of the Mississippi Commission on the Status of Women.

*Wednesday, August 11. “Let’s Talk about Economic Self Sufficiency in Mississippi.” Speaker will be from the Mississippi Economic Policy Center.
