JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is issuing a traffic alert to motorists traveling on U.S. Highway 18 in Clarke County. Due to last night’s severe weather, the Rocky Creek Bridge (eastbound) just 13 miles east of U.S. 45/Highway 18 interchange is closed until further notice.
A portion of the roadway has been washed out due to flood waters.
MDOT crews will have to rebuild and pave a portion of the roadway as soon as the water recedes.
MDOT officials urge motorists to never drive into a flooded area while traveling on the highway, and to take alternate routes around the area.
