Pike County denied home-buyer’s grant

Officials said an application for a home-buyer’s down payment assistance grant for Pike County was rejected because the application preparer was not eligible to submit the application.

Pike County supervisors authorized Bobby Rayburn of Rayburn & Associates, in Jackson, to prepare the application for the $250,000 HOME Investment Partnerships Grant. However, Steven Hardin, of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) notified Pike County that Rayburn was on their ineligible participant’s list, in connection with documentation requirements for a grant application in Batesville. As a result, Pike County’s application was rejected.

Rayburn maintains he has submitted the necessary documentation, and he told Pike County supervisors he thought the matter had been cleared up.

The MDA confirmed that it had not been settled and they didn’t see it being rectified any time soon.
