Mississippi Spelling Bee set for Tuesday

From The Mississippi Link Newswire

JACKSON – Twenty-seven students from across Mississippi will compete in the state spelling bee championship.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday and will be broadcast live beginning at 10 a.m. from the studios of Mississippi Public Broadcasting in Jackson.

The event is hosted by the Mississippi Association of Educators.

During the fall and winter, schools conduct spelling bee programs at the classroom and school level. School winners send their spelling champions to the district level where they compete in a countywide spelling bee. The county winners then compete at the Mississippi Spelling Bee.

The Mississippi winner will advance to the 85th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., beginning June 1.
