James Meredith launched a 200 Mile “Walk for the Poor” on the 24th of May in Tunica, MS to focus the Christian church on its Duty and Responsibility for Care of the POOR in its community.

James Meredith is walking through the areas where the poor live in every county in the Mississippi Delta.   He is promoting a message of school preparedness and listening to the concerns of citizens.  “If we teach children the fundamentals from birth to age five, we will save this generation,” Meredith said.  He is passing out bookmarks that tell parents, grandparents, and guardians to teach their children their ABCs and how to count to 100, before they turn age five, and before they go to school.

Meredith told an audience at the Community Students Learning Center in Lexington, Mississippi (Holmes County), “Less of our people have the opportunity to advance in American today than we did 47 years ago when I went to Ole Miss.”  He is hopeful that the walk will help, but proclaimed, “We can’t stop here.”  He knocked on every door at Willow Wood Apartments

Thursday evening in Yazoo City, MS and talked one-on-one with residents.
