Noxubee County officials have arrested a 25-year old man and charged him with the statutory rape of his 13-year old first cousin. Marcus Bonds, of the 600 block of Grove Circle, in Macon, was arrested after the victim told her mother about the assault.

Authorities are still investigating the case.

Bonds is being held in a Noxubee County jail without bond.

Tip leads to meth arrest

Two men from Pontotoc were arrested on drug charges after an anonymous tip advised authorities of their plan. Scottie L. Gillespie, 30, and Charles T. Davis, 54, were arrested by agents from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics for allegedly bringing in methamphetamines from Alabama.

The two men were arrested during a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 78 in Fulton.

A search of the vehicle turned up four ounces of a highly potent form of meth and several units of prescription drugs valued at about $7,300. Officials also seized drug paraphernalia and about $1,300 in cash.

Gillespie and Davis, who are already on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, were both charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of Endocet and possession of diazepam.

The suspects are currently being held without bond.

College hit with wrongful death lawsuit

Coahoma Community College (C.C.C.) officials said they have been named in a lawsuit stemming from the May 4 death of Gary Gammel. Authorities said Gammel died from injuries sustained after he was struck by a vehicle being pursued by law enforcement agencies during a high speed chase.

An officer with C.C.C was chasing Jamarrki Williams for an alleged misdemeanor when Gammel was hit. Gammel was an employee of the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board.

The lawsuit is in the amount of $500,000 or the limits of liability insurance and must to be settled within 90 days or the college could face litigation and a possible $2 million verdict.
