Georgia woman arrested for passing counterfeit bills

OCEAN SPRINGS – A woman from Stone Mountain, Georgia was brought back to Mississippi to face charges of passing fake $100 bills. Crystal Joy Holloway, 24, was charged with one count of felony uttering forgery after authorities said she allegedly passed the fake bills all along the coast.

Authorities said the investigation has been ongoing for nearly two years and that the bills Holloway was passing were originally printed as $5 bills.

“The currency was altered and overlaid with a hundred dollar face,” said Lt. John Flowers with the Ocean Springs Police Department. “The suspect traveled from the Atlanta, Georgia area with the intention of passing the currency along the coast. The transactions consisted of passing the counterfeit $100 bills for small purchases of $5 to $10, at which time the merchants would refund the difference in unaltered currency.”

Flowers said several merchants in the city fell victim to Holloway’s alleged scheme.

Holloway is awaiting a court appearance and a bond hearing.
