JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal from a Mississippi death row inmate.
The court announced its decision Monday.
Jason Lee Keller sentenced to death for the 2007 fatal shooting and robbery of 41-year-old Hat Nguyen at her convenience store in Harrison County. The Mississippi Supreme Court upheld Keller’s conviction last year.
Keller, now 33, was convicted of capital murder in 2009 in Harrison County Circuit Court.
Keller argued statements he gave police while being treated in the hospital for a gunshot wound were inadmissible. Two were thrown out at his trial; the third was allowed as evidence.
A majority of the Mississippi Supreme Court found the third statement was voluntarily given to authorities.
