Infant had trauma to head and body

A Rankin County grand jury has indicted a Pearl couple for their involvement in the death of their 2-month of son in July 2009. Michael and Amanda Voyles are scheduled to appear before Judge William Chapman on Dec. 10 on charges of felonious child abuse and capital murder.

In 2009, their son, Elisha Voyles, was taken off life support a day after he was brought to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with several injuries.

The Rankin County Coroner said Elisha died due to trauma to his head and body.

District Attorney Michael Guest said no decision has been made as to whether or not he will seek the death penalty.

Four teens charged with breaking into cars at MSU

Mississippi State University police said two 17-year olds and two 15-year olds have been charged with breaking into cars during football games at the university. Authorities said that while all of the burglaries took place on the campus, they’re not sure exactly how many cars were actually burglarized.

Police said the four suspects worked together and allegedly stole MP3 players, cell phones, GPS locators and car stereo equipment from numerous cars including several that were left unlocked.

The four teens reportedly live in the Starkville area and the two 17-year olds will be charged as adults and the two 15-year olds will be charged as juveniles.

Band director back at school after embezzlement arrest

Charles Simpson, a Forrest County high school band director, is back at work after being arrested for allegedly embezzling more than $10,000 from his former school. Simpson, 39, was previously employed at St. Martin High School in Pascagoula where he was charged with stealing the money in 2005.

Simpson was indicted by a Jackson County grand jury in September and he was arrested in October. Reportedly, Forrest County School Board members voted to allow Simpson to return to his current employer, Forrest County Agricultural High School immediately.

Crime Stoppers tips leads to 2 arrests

After asking the community for help in solving a felony shoplifting case, Officer Terrie Songer, of the Columbus Police Department said two arrests have been made. Songer said the Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of 31-year old Roy Wallace, Jr., and 32-year old Bobby Dennis Baker.

Wallace and Baker are charged with felony shoplifting for an incident that occurred at Belk’s Department Store on U.S. Highway 45 North.

Songer said several tips were received leading to the identity of Wallace and Baker.
