Bond $500K for man accused of killing girlfriend’s dad

BROOKHAVEN – A Lincoln County judge set the bond for a man accused of killing his girlfriend’s father at $500,000. Andrew Hammond, 21, was arrested on March 12, after authorities said he allegedly argued with 45-year old William “Bubba” Thompson and then shot him.

The altercation took place on March 12, at Thompson’s home, in the 2100 block of Harbor Lane, in Bogue Chitto, just before 10 p.m. Authorities said they were told a subject had been shot at the residence and when they arrived they found Thompson with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Daily Leader said Hammond had locked himself in a back bedroom until police arrived.

Thompson was transported to King’s Daughter’s Medical Center by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead by Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris at about 11 p.m.

County officials told The Daily Leader that prior to the autopsy, there were no other apparent wounds on Thompson’s body.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said the altercation appeared to be a domestic dispute between the girl’s father and her boyfriend. Hammond was arrested and charged with Thompson’s murder.

Hammond was taken to the Lincoln County Detention Center and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.

The case remains under investigation.
