3 teens charged as adults in armed robbery

Four suspects were arrested Sunday after they allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint in Biloxi. Michael Hartley, 20, was arrested and charged with armed robbery along with 16-year old Raymond McQueen, 16-year old Kendrick Payton and 17-year old Akeem Stallworth.

The three teens will be charged as adults.

Biloxi police said they responded to a Motsie Road address early Sunday morning and were told that one of the suspects had pulled a gun on the two victims. The suspects were arrested a short time later and the victims, who received minor injuries in the assault, were transported to a hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

Sex offender captured in Arkansas

A convicted sex offender was captured in Arkansas after he failed to register his new home address with the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department. William Watson, 39, of Clarksdale, is being extradited back to Mississippi after being spotted by U.S. Marshals in Helena, Arkansas on July 6.

Watson was convicted of sexual battery in Coahoma County in 1993.

Alabama woman drowns at Mississippi home

Police in Pascagoula said a 56-year old woman from Irvington, Alabama was pronounced dead on July 9 after she drowned in the swimming pool of a residence on Quinn Avenue. Loretta Hanson’s body was discovered by her boyfriend who police said pulled her from the pool.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Hanson, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy determined the official cause of death as drowning.

Police are still investigating.

HIV prevention program gets grant

The United States Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant to Building Bridges, Inc., of Jackson. The grant will assist in minority and other community-based HIV prevention projects. The grant award is $389,580.
