2 teens denied bond for shooting 17-year-old in the head

JACKSON – Two teens are being held without bond after they allegedly robbed a 17-year-old and shot him in the head. LaQunn Gary, 18, and Jamiria Travis, 16, appeared in court last week on charges of capital murder in the case of Vizavian Darby.

Darby was found lying on the street on Feb. 11. He had been shot to death.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said police responded to Carter Avenue near Markham Street about 3:08 p.m., Feb. 11. When officers arrived, they found Darby on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation also determined that Darby had been robbed.

Green said three days later, two suspects were charged in the case. Gary and Travis.

“Detectives were able to determine that a female, Jamira Travis, was also involved in this crime,” Green said. “Travis was arrested and charged with capital murder.

Travis and Gary appeared in court on Feb. 16 where they were denied a bond.

WLBT reported that Darby’s mother said Travis set her son up to be killed after she asked for a ride in his a car, a 2011 Dodge Charger.

Darby’s car was stolen and has since been recovered.
