Beer, light wine sales approved in Greene County

Voters in Greene County have approved the sale of beer and light wine.

Circuit Clerk Cecelia Bounds says the referendum was approved by 55 percent of voters.

The Free Greene County group pushed to have the referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot, collecting in excess of the 1,700 signatures needed to bring the measure to a vote. By law, 20 percent of the registered voters in the county had to sign the petition.

Small plane crashes in Jackson neighborhood; 3 pilots killed

A small plane carrying three experienced pilots crashed Tuesday evening in a residential neighborhood in west Jackson and the victims’ friends and families want to know why.
The accident occurred near Hawkins Field Airport. The Piper PA-32 single-engine plane, registered to a company in Flowood, reportedly took off just after 5 p.m. Tuesday from Hawkins and crashed a short time later after asking air traffic control for permission to return to the airport.

4 elephants OK after circus truck wrecks near I-10

A circus official says a truck pulling a trailer full of elephants ran off an interstate in southern Mississippi over the weekend, but the four pachyderms and the driver were not injured.
