Suspect led police on a foot pursuit

A Pascagoula man was arrested after reportedly using a stolen debit card for several purchases. Danny Macon, 39, of Thurlow Drive, was captured by police who were staking out the area. Authorities said a woman reported that her debit card was lost at the Tobacco Warehouse on Alabama Street, and while the woman was reporting her loss, Macon and another subject were allegedly using the card to obtain merchandise at Street Sounds at 1516 Gardner Blvd.

Police staked out the area and Macon soon returned to the scene. Macon allegedly ran from police only to be captured a short distance later. He was served with an outstanding warrant for contempt of court and he was formally charged with two counts of credit card fraud, one count at O’Reilly Auto parts on Alabama Street and Street Sounds on Gardner Blvd.

Authorities expect to make more arrests in the case.

Baby found dead at Jackson apartment

Jackson Police are still trying to determine what caused the death of an infant found at an apartment building where the mother was also found unconscious. Authorities said police responded to a “deceased person” call at the Audubon Grove Apartments at 3175 Robinson Street in West Jackson around 11 a.m., Feb. 7.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year old black female unconscious and a 3-month old baby dead. The call was made by the female’s boyfriend.

WLBT reported the family has a history of diabetes which may have been a factor with the female.

Autopsy results are pending on the baby.

Moorhead Volunteer Fire Department gets $90,000 grant

United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration has awarded an $89,785 Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Moorhead Volunteer Fire Department.

The purpose of the AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first responder personnel.

AFG has two funding priorities: Vehicle Acquisition Program Area where eligible activities include but are not limited to, pumpers, aerials, quints, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, foam units, and fireboats, and the Operations and Safety Program Area: Eligible activities are limited to training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
