Dave Ware outraising Johnny DuPree in Hattiesburg mayoral rematch

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (AP) — Challenger Dave Ware is raising more money than current Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree in their electoral rematch.

Ware has raised nearly $130,000, according to reports filed Tuesday. Dupree has raised $60,000.

Jackson Zoo’s accreditation on the line

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — The national Association of Zoos & Aquariums has pulled its accreditation from the only Mississippi zoo which held it, because of financial instability.

Rains bring at least 4 tornadoes to Mississippi, break dry spell

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — At least four tornadoes were part of a rainy system that moved across Mississippi Friday night and Saturday morning.

Officials reported tornadoes in Adams, Rankin, Simpson and Smith counties. Weather Service officials said they know of no injuries from any of the storms.

In Adams County, a tornado estimated to have top winds of 115 mph cut a path a mile long and 200 yards wide in the Kingston community, southeast of Natchez. Two houses had their roofs substantially damaged… […]

Terror attack at Kenyan mall kills 59, wounds 175, including four Americans; hostage situation continues

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The Kenyan military remained in a tense standoff with Islamic extremists Sunday, as the toll rose to 59 dead, including children, and 175 wounded in the attack at an upscale mall, a Kenyan minister said.

Multiple barrages of gunfire erupted Sunday morning from inside the building where hostages are being held by militants. The radicals attacked the mall Saturday and remained inside throughout the night.
