Miss. West Nile cases up to 225 for year

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 12 new human cases of West Nile virus.

The new cases were reported in Coahoma (1), Forrest (1), Hancock (1), Lauderdale (1), Lowndes (1), Madison (1), Pearl River (1), Rankin (3), Walthall (1), and Wayne (1) counties, bringing the state total to 225 cases and five deaths. […]

Missing woman now wanted for embezzlement

Linda Gale Reed, a Copiah County woman last seen on April 29, is now wanted for embezzlement of $20,000 from her employer.

Sheriff Harold Jones said Tuesday at a news conference that the 65-year-old Reed had “sole control” of the petty cash fund at Moore’s Fabrications. Jones said an accountant hired by the company and a FBI forensic accountant found the money missing from 2010 petty cash fund. […]

4 elephants OK after circus truck wrecks near I-10

A circus official says a truck pulling a trailer full of elephants ran off an interstate in southern Mississippi over the weekend, but the four pachyderms and the driver were not injured.
