OLIVE BRANCH – A traveling evangelist charged with spying on women with a hidden camera appeared in court on Nov. 8 and was bound over to the action of the grand jury.
Sammy Nuckolls arrived at the Olive Branch courthouse with a supporter and his lawyer Ronald Michael, who proclaimed his innocence.
“He pleaded not guilty to the charges being raised against him here,” Michael said.
Nuckolls is a traveling evangelist charged with secretly recording an Olive Branch woman without her permission.
During a preliminary hearing at the Olive Branch Courthouse, Nuckolls decided to waive the formal hearing process which allows to case to go on to a grand jury.
Nuckolls case in Olive Branch follows his recent arrest in Gosnell, Ark. on similar charges that he secretly recorded a woman without her permission.
Investigators said the Arkansas charges stem from an incident last month in which a Gosnell couple said Nuckolls was in town to preach at a religious revival and they offered to let him stay at their house.
“It was a matter of trust because of his profession,” Gosnell Police Chief Bobby Trump said.
According to Trump, the female victim told investigators she was about to take a shower when she spotted an ink pin poking out of a shaving kit Nuckolls had left in the bathroom. She discovered the pen doubled as a small video camera, and called police.
“He then gave us a confession stating that he did set that up for the purpose of videotaping the lady in the shower,” Trump said. “He also admitted that he had done two others in Olive Branch.”
That’s when Olive Branch police began investigating, eventually charging Nuckolls with videotaping a local woman without her permission.
Now, officers in both Olive Branch and Gosnell are investigating Nuckolls to see if there are more women who have been secretly taped.
Nuckolls declined to comment on his case as he was leaving the Olive Branch Courthouse. His attorney said he does not know if the traveling preacher will keep on preaching.
“I have no idea at this point in time what his personal and future life is going to hold, but we hope that we will have more clarity on that as time goes on,” Michael said.
