Teen charged with killing stepmother to stay in jail

A now 17-year-old Vicksburg teen has been denied bond in the shooting death of her stepmother three years ago.

Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick said Friday that Tyla Denise Vega would remain behind bars even after attorney Marshal Sanders said the court ordered mental evaluation on the teen had been completed.

Vega has remained in custody at the Warren County jail since December 2011 when her $75,000 bail was revoked by her bonding agent.

Fire set at Warren County jail; 18 inmates moved

A fire at the Warren County Jail was deliberately set, according to Sheriff Martin Pace.

Pace tells the Vicksburg Post that Monday night’s fire caused a cell block to be evacuated. Eighteen inmates were moved to Rankin County.

Missing pet boa constrictor found after a week

After missing for a week, a pet boa constrictor has been found in the same city where it disappeared.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that the snake was found Friday night by two Madison residents who saw a large snake crossing a road.
