Victim was 60-years old

State police said a Pearl River County man was killed Saturday morning when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree. Richard J. McEvoy, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene when authorities said he lost control of his bike on U.S. Highway 43 while trying to pass another motorcycle.

The accident occurred just before 7 a.m., and it remains under investigation.

Woman dies while fishing

A Grenada County woman apparently died of natural causes while fishing and fell into the lake. Authorities said Sadie Brown was fishing on Grenada Lake earlier this month when she fell in. Another fisherman tried to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities initially thought Brown, 69, had drowned, but autopsy results later revealed she died of unknown natural causes.

Reports said Brown was fishing near Grenada Landing at the time of her death.

Man shot to death outside restaurant

Holly Springs Police are investigating the shooting death of a man outside a local restaurant. WTVA reported that Charles Williamson, 27, was shot three times by 25-year old Michael Newsome. Both men lived in Holly Springs.

Authorities said one man was entering the unnamed restaurant on Memphis Street and Park Avenue, while the other man was leaving. Police said the two men got into an argument and Newsome allegedly pulled a gun and fired a round.

Police believe Newsome fired two additional shots at Williamson while he was in the street.

Newsome was arrested shortly after the shooting. He was transported to the Marshall County jail where authorities were looking to charge him the crime.

Charges against state trooper dropped

Felony charges of fraud against a Mississippi highway patrolman have been dropped in Monroe County. Wayne Cantrell was charged with fraud in connection with his construction business after complaints that he did not perform the work and home repairs he agreed to.

Authorities said Cantrell entered into a contract with several residents.

Some charges against Cantrell were dropped in Pontotoc County late last year, while the remaining charges were dropped in April.
