Victim was shot to death

Leake County authorities are looking for suspects in the murder of a local woman found dead at her family’s business. Donna Cochran was found around 8:30 a.m., on Aug. 12. Police said she had been shot to death.

Authorities said Cochran was working alone Wednesday night about 7:30 p.m., at D and M Saddles and Tack near U.S. Highway 488, when someone broke in and robbed her.

Investigators said money was missing from the store’s bank bag.

Cochran’s father-in-law found her behind the desk the next morning.

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.

Painting house numbers scam

WABG is reporting that several Greenville residents have called city hall because flyers are being distributed offering to paint house numbers on the curbs in residential neighborhoods for a fee.

Greenville Mayor Heather Hudson said the city has not given anyone permission to distribute the flyers or perform that kind of work. Hudson said a license is required for that job and it has to be approved by the city council.

Greenville authorities are investigating the complaints and urges anyone with information to contact the police department at 662.378.1515.

Second Congressional District gets $26 million contract

United States Representative Bennie Thompson said The United States Department of Agriculture has awarded a $26,246,888 contract to Hoar Construction, LLC, through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The funds will be used to perform major renovations to the Jamie Whitten Delta State Research Center in Stoneville, Ms, to address deferred critical maintenance of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and other needed repairs.

Thompson also announced that The United States Department of Labor has awarded a grant to MS Action For Community Education in Greenville. The grant, in the amount of $312,676, will provide education and training for young people in the community.

Man shot at nightclub

Police in Clarksdale are looking for a suspect that allegedly shot a man outside a nightclub on Tallahatchie Street. The shooting occurred around 2:35 p.m., on Aug. 8.
