Santa Cruz new highway patrol director

JACKSON – Albert Santa Cruz has been named the new Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said officials from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Santa Cruz began his career in law enforcement as a state trooper in 1974, and made his way through the ranks being named master sergeant in 1986, captain in 1996, and Southern Region Director for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations in 2005.

“I never thought I’d be leading the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” Santa Cruz said. “I’m an old road trooper. [And] I want to thank Governor Barbour and Commissioner [Steve] Simpson for having the trust in me to do this job.”

In a meeting with the command staff of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Santa Cruz told commanders he will allow them to lead their individual districts.

“Troop commanders are going to run their troops,” he said. “The chain of command will be followed. I want to make sure the districts are running right.”

Major Raymond Delk was named Acting Director of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations replacing Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Sisk.

Delk, a 27 year veteran of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said:

“I am honored to be appointed by Governor Barbour. I will continue to run the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation the same way I’ve approached my career in law enforcement, and that is to work as diligently as possible to solve the crimes across this state for our citizens.”
