Fight erupted over a woman

Leflore County authorities are investigating the case of a man who was attacked with a broken beer bottle following an argument with another man. Kelton Lee, was allegedly cut around the eyes and face, after arguing with Roy Bedford.

The incident took place at the home of an unnamed woman on Downing Drive in the Sunny Acres subdivision near Greenwood. Sheriff Ricky Banks said authorities have received two conflicting stories about the assault. Lee said he and the woman have a child together, and he was attacked when he came to visit the child.

Bedford, 18, and the woman maintain that Lee and two other men came to the woman’s residence and picked a fight with Bedford.

Bedford was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was transported to the Leflore County jail.

Fire truck was redirecting traffic

Officials said it would cost about $100,000 to replace a fire truck that was totaled when it was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler last week.

The Bolivar County fire truck had responded to a brush fire on U.S. Highway 61, by bringing water to the scene. Authorities said the tanker was then being used to redirect traffic when an 18-wheeler slammed into the rear of the truck.

Officials said the brush fire was so dense that smoke temporarily shielded the truck, perhaps blocking its visibility from the driver of the 18-wheeler.

No injuries were reported.
