Elderly woman kidnapped from Wal-Mart and robbed

PASCAGOULA – Lt. Davy Davis of the Pascagoula Police Department said what occurred yesterday to an 82-year old woman is “a strange situation.” Davis said on Nov. 18, the elderly woman was approached by a black woman at Wal-Mart on U.S. Highway 90, and forced into her own vehicle in the parking lot.

“She was then taken to her bank, using her van,” Davis said, “where the [suspect] escorted her in the bank and stood with her while she withdrew a large sum of money.”

Davis said the suspect left Hancock Bank, on U.S. Highway 90, with the victim and then fled the scene with her money.

Davis said another woman is believed to have been part of the robbery.

“The victim was not injured,” he said. “But the women implied they had a gun in their purse. And they physically jostled [the victim] around to get her to do what they wanted.”

Davis said the victim reported the incident to police on Nov. 19, a day after the incident.

“She didn’t know what to do,” Davis said. “She was very much afraid and upset. And today she eventually told family members what happened and they called us. But it’s a shame, for this to happen to a woman 82 years old and in broad daylight.”

Davis said the victim didn’t know the two suspects but police were able to obtain clear photographs of the suspects from surveillance video.

Anyone who knows the identity of the women or has information about the crime can contact the Pascagoula Police Criminal Investigation Division at 228-938-6684.
