Spell sentenced in fatal crash

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A Jackson man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges related to a 2007 crash that left two people dead.

It is reported that Christopher Scott Spell pleaded guilty Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court to two counts of manslaughter in the death of Clinton Fire Department Capt. Eddie McGowan and wife, Vicki. The accident occurred in Byram.

The McGowans’ two children were hurt the accident and recovered.

Spell told Circuit Judge Tomie Green that he was speeding and driving recklessly when the accident occurred.

Green sentenced Spell to 20 years on each count with the sentences are to run concurrently, meaning at the same time.
