Allegedly grabbed man’s wallet

A man accused of grabbing another man’s wallet while at a Greenwood convenience store has been arrested. Mario Long, 27, was charged with strong-armed robbery after authorities said he grabbed the wallet of a James Francis of Mayo, Fla.

According to police, on May 11, Francis stopped at the Speedway store on Bowie Lane to purchase propane for his recreational vehicle. Driving another car, Long accused Francis of hitting his car with the RV.

When Mayo offered to pay Long for the minimal damages, Long allegedly grabbed Mayo’s wallet and drove away.

Authorities said an eyewitness to the crime copied Long’s license plate number and turned it in. Later that day, Grenada police spotted Long’s vehicle and he was arrested, and $900 of Mayo’s money was recovered.

Long is being held at the Leflore County jail.

Convicted murderer and 3 others charged with arson

The Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department arrested four people, including a felon on probation for murder, for their involvement in the arson of a residence in Fulton. Authorities said Gregory Dingler, 40, of Belmont, allegedly burned down a house in the northeast part of the county.

Sheriff Chris Dickinson told WTVA that Dingler’s girlfriend, Rhonda Freeman, 40, of Golden, was involved in an inheritance dispute over the house. Freeman was charged as an accessory before the fact along with Angela Polte, 44, and Kimberly Novascone, 40, both of Belmont.

Dickinson said all three are accused of either provoking the fire or assisting in it.

Dickinson says Dingler was singled out in the arson, because he was on federal probation for a prior murder conviction. Dingler’s bond was set at $100,000, while bond for the other three suspects was set at $5,000.
