Police try to ID shooter who injured 6 during block party

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Police are trying to identify a suspect who they say opened fired during a block party in Jackson, wounding six people.

Multiple news outlets report that Jackson police say the Friday night shooting on Lorenz Street stemmed from a fight.

Jackson police Cmdr. Tyree Jones says someone pulled out a gun and started firing multiple shooting into the crowd.

Witnesses say hundreds of people began running away from the gunfire. Jones says several people were trampled and injured when the crowd started running.

The shooting victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.

On Sunday, police released a video showing the shooter opening fire.

Authorities asked anyone with information on the gunman to call 601-335-TIPS or Crime Stoppers.
