Pascagoula man drowns after falling off boat in Pascagoula river

drowningGAUTIER, Mississippi (AP) — A 75-year-old Pascagoula man drowned Wednesday night after falling off a houseboat in the Pascagoula River near Gautier.

According to Gautier Public Affairs Officer Matt Hoggatt, Gautier police received a 911 call shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday night advising a man had fallen overboard in the river near Big Lake and had not resurfaced.

The Gautier Police dive team, assisted by personnel from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, searched the area and ultimately recovered the body of the victim — identified as Stephen Foster Krebs Sr. — just before 11 p.m.

Krebs name was initially withheld pending notification of family. The death is being investigated as an accident by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.
