PEARL, Mississippi (AP) — The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department says a father alleged to have abandoned his three children on Tuesday has surrendered to authorities, while the siblings’ mother is expected to be arrested.

The Clarion-Ledger reports 31-year-old Quincy Montanna Peels, of Jackson, turned himself in Wednesday on one count of felony child abandonment in regards to a 3-year-old, and two counts of felony desertion of a child, in regards to his other children ages seven and 10.

Warrants for one count of felony child abandonment and two counts of felony desertion of a child have been issued for the children’s mother 28-year-old Keyundra Charon Battle Peels.

Officials said deputies responded to an area near the Hinds-Rankin county line, after receiving a call from workers who reported seeing the children being removed from a vehicle.
