GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Federal regulators have opened an investigation into the estimated costs and schedule of Mississippi Power Co.’s overrun-plagued $6.7 billion Kemper County power plant being built in Mississippi. In a filing Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the unit of Atlanta-based Southern Co. said it believes the inquiry is focused on “accounting matters, disclosure controls and procedures, and internal controls over financial reporting associated with” Kemper.

(AP) – The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission says the state’s spring inshore shrimp season will open statewide May 23 at 6 a.m. The commission voted unanimously Thursday to go against state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries data showing the season should be opened earlier in the Barataria, Timbalier, Terrebonne and Vermilion-Teche basins.
