More than 30 Methodist ministers published an open letter Monday, saying the state’s so-called “religious freedom” law goes against Christian teachings to love and respect all people.

MIAMI (AP) – The organization that names tropical storms and hurricanes says it will retire the names Erika, Joaquin and Patricia following the 2015 season. The World Meteorological Organization announced Monday that Elsa and Julian will be used for future storms in the Atlantic, while Pamela will be used in the eastern North Pacific.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The CEO of Mississippi’s largest publicly held company is pledging $10 million toward the expansion of pediatric medical facilities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Joe Sanderson and his wife Cathy made the pledge Monday as the university launched a $100 million fundraising drive for Children’s of Mississippi. That’s the umbrella organization that includes the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital and other pediatric clinics in Jackson and elsewhere.

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say a man died after police used a stun gun on him outside a Mississippi restaurant. Local news outlets report that police received a call about a 53-year-old man who was being disorderly.
