HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (AP) — Bond has been set for two suspects charged in connection with the unrelated deaths of two Hattiesburg women over the New Year’s weekend.

During a court appearance Monday, The Hattiesburg American reports Municipal Court Judge Jerry Evans set bond at $1 million each for 64-year-old Theopolis Schaffer and 34-year-old Joe Michael Shaw Jr.

Schaffer is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old Anna Griffith, who was shot around 11 p.m. Friday at an apartment complex.

Police say the shooting was the result of an apparent domestic dispute.

Shaw faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of 37-year-old Kelly Ladner, who was found dead Saturday afternoon.

Police say Shaw was Ladner’s boyfriend.

Online jail records do not list attorneys for Schaffer or Shaw.
