Sharkey County Coroner Angela Easton tells The Clarion-Ledger 16-year-old Cayle Mitchell Taylor, of Franklinton, La., was shot in the chest and apparently killed by his father while hunting in the Delta National Forest on New Year’s Eve.

The state wildlife agency’s Law Enforcement Bureau Chief Steve Adcock says his department is investigating and still looking for answers.

Adcock released few details about the shooting, but stressed the need for safe practices while hunting. He says people need to be aware of their target and don’t shoot at movement or shadows. He says hunters should be 100 percent sure of their target before firing.
