(AP) – LSU catcher Kade Scivicque and Tulane right-hander Alex Massey have been selected for the second time this season as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Baseball Players of the Week. Scivicque, a senior from Maurepas, was named Hitter of the Week for the second time this season.
NEW YORK (AP) – Fox NASCAR announcer Steve Byrnes has died. He was 56. The network said he died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Byrnes joined Fox Sports in 2001 and served as a pit reporter for its Sprint Cup Series coverage through the 2014 season.
SEATTLE (AP) – Jose Altuve helped Collin McHugh win his 10th straight decision with a go-ahead three-run double in the eighth inning, and the Houston Astros rallied for a 6-3 win over the Seattle Mariners last night. Down 3-1 entering the eighth, the Astros scored five times against the Mariners bullpen.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – The annual PGA Tour event in Greensboro will keep its title sponsorship with Wyndham Worldwide through 2026. Officials with the tour and the company announced the 10-year extension to remain the sponsor of the Wyndham Championship yesterday. Wyndham took over sponsorship of the event in 2007.
