2 teens charged in Belhaven purse-snatching murder of 69-year-old woman

13275034-smallJACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Two teenagers have been charged with the fatal shooting of a woman injured during a robbery this past week in the Belhaven area of Jackson.

The two 17-year-olds were arrested Tuesday by Jackson police during a manhunt for carjacking suspects. They were later charged with capital murder for the robbery and slaying of 69-year-old Carolyn Temple.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a 16-year-old in the murder case.

Temple died Monday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Authorities say Temple was attacked by two men last Wednesday who attempted to take her purse. When she resisted, they hit her in the head with the gun and then shot her in the hand and stomach.

Police Chief Lee Vance says an initial court hearing is pending for the teenagers.
