Grandmother, grandson escape Thanksgiving fire in Harrison County

2254298_GGULFPORT, Mississippi (AP) — A South Mississippi grandmother is counting her blessings this Thanksgiving Day, despite no longer being able to stay in her home after an early morning house fire.

WLOX-TV reports shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to a fire at a mobile home in Harrison County. Investigators have not yet determined what sparked it, but they say the damage is extensive.

Andrea Hay, who lived in the home with her 7-year-old grandson, says the Red Cross is putting them up in a hotel for a few nights, but because she didn’t have homeowner’s insurance, she’s not sure what will happen next.

Still, Hay says she’s grateful for all the emergency responders and the Red Cross, thanking them for their help and kindness.
