HSSM spokeswoman Krystyna Schmitt says the rescued dogs were brought to Gulfport on Wednesday night.
Authorities say more than 170 animals were removed from two locations in Alcorn County and taken to a number of shelters around Mississippi for treatment.
Humane Society of the United States spokeswoman Kaitlin Sanderson says in addition to 123 dogs and puppies, the rescuers found cats, horses, ducks, chickens, roosters, bunnies, goats, a donkey and a miniature pig on one of the properties. They also found two dead dogs.
Sanderson says no charges have been filed against the two owners and evidence collected Wednesday will determine a future course of action.
