HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — The University of Southern Mississippi student charged with posting a threat on social media is free on bond.

Justice Court Judge Gay Polk-Payton set bond Wednesday at $40,000 for 20-year-old Brandon Hardin, of Carriere. Hardin was arrested Monday on a felony charge of posting a computer threat to cause injury.

He allegedly made an anonymous post Monday morning on the social media application Yik Yak that threatened members of the university community at Joseph Green Hall on Tuesday.

The Hattiesburg American reports the judge also told Hardin he couldn’t be on the Southern Miss campus without invitation or his bond could be revoked.

Hardin’s attorney, Glenn White, said his client carries a 3.7 grade-point average and comes from a well-respected family.
